Method
Each record comes from the Grid-India daily power supply position (PSP) report, the official daily account of India's grid. Daily records start in January 2023. For states, monthly CEA reports back to 2010 extend the history.
What counts as a record
A value counts as a record when it beats every earlier value by more than 0.1%. National, regional and state peak demand, national daily electricity use, and national solar and wind generation are tracked.
A record is called all-time only when earlier data proves it. For solar and wind, Ember monthly data for 2019 to 2022 sets the pre-2023 level.
Checks before a post
Every figure is checked against the live 15-minute grid feed for the same day. A record is held back when the live feed is missing, incomplete, or outside its normal gap to the official report.
At most two records are posted a day, and one per place.
Units
Energy is in GWh. One GWh equals one million units (MU). Power is in GW or MW.
